LOCAL NEWS:

Volunteers Sought to Build Playground in Waverly

Here's a chance to help build swings, castles, bridges, towers and a volcano--all mandated by a plan designed by the community's children.
Volunteer builders are being sought to join in an effort to create "the best playground Baltimore has ever seen," according to organizers of a "construction-thon" to be held at 900 East 33rd Street on April 7-10 and April 13-17. The recreation mecca-to-be was designed by children in Waverly's Stadium neighborhoods. Organizers expect that the playground will be completely built by 3,000 community volunteers over nine days.

It will feature swings, castles, bridges, towers and a volcano, and will be 70% handicapped-accessible. There will be benches and a gazebo where seniors from the nearby Stadium Place retirement community can interact with the children.

For information on how to get involved, call 410-235-3334 or visit stadiumplayground.com.
