OPEN LETTER:

Why does The Sun Continue to Publish Inarticulate Op-Eds?

TO THE EDITORIAL PAGE EDITORS OF THE BALTIMORE SUN:

I continue to be amazed that the Sun stoops to run articles written by Cal Thomas. Mr. Thomas shows himself to be barely literate, profoundly ignorant, biased, and bigoted. His article, "What's Behind the Left's Bitter Hatred of George Bush," ( Sun 9/1 ), is so slanted, and makes so many unsubstantiated charges, as to be unworthy of comment.

As they say in law, res ipsa loquitor, the thing speaks for itself. There is a point where opinion becomes cant. When a person is accused of being "opinionated," it is usually because he or she has such hard-wired beliefs as to be unable to see the world except through the narrow prism of one's own personal faith or belief system.

Mr. Thomas clearly falls into that category. What he sees as Mr. Bush's chief virtue (and likely his own) is the very thing that scares the pants off most thinking (not necessarily liberal!) Americans.

How can anyone question a man who literally converses with his God and is certain, therefore, that he knows what is best for the entire planet? This is Osama in another cloak--the cloak of the self-righteous.

Bush has eaten of the forbidden fruit --of the knowledge of good and evil--and has replaced God and become His surrogate on earth. How else could someone presume to know how to run the world? He increasingly speaks only to himself (without any reference to mere mortals) and has no obvious connection to the earth and all its creatures--Laura Bush's opinion notwithstanding. As for Cal Thomas, he is an embarrassment to his profession.
