Charles Village Festival Slated for June 3 and 4

On Saturday, June 3 and Sunday, June 4, the 10th annual Charles Village Festival will be held at Wyman Park Dell, 29th and Charles Streets. Hours are 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

This year's theme is "Explore Village Life!"

Activities and events planned for the festival weekend include:

5k Run and Children's 1k Fun Run—Saturday, June 3

The Charles Village Celebration 5K Race begins at 8:30 AM on Saturday morning. Pre-Race day registration is $20. Go to for an application or register online at Call Race Director Kelly Dees at 410-308-1870 with questions. Race day registration ($25) begins at 7:00 a.m. at 29th & Wyman Park Drive. This event was designated "Baltimore's Best 5K Race" by the City Paper.

At 9:00 AM, a free Kids' 1K Fun Run through Charles Village will encourage physical fitness and help the youngsters know the fun associated with sports. Free Registration is at 8:30 a.m. at the starting area of 32nd St & Guilford Ave. Medals to all 1K finishers!

Charles Village Parade—Saturday, June 3

A parade featuring creative floats, art cars, marching bands and more will begin Saturday morning, June 3, at 10 a.m. The parade will begin at 25th and St. Paul Streets; march up St. Paul to 33rd Street, over to Charles Street and south on Charles Street to 29th Street.

Charles Village Garden Walk—Sunday, June 4

The annual Garden Walk will take place on Sunday, June 4 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., offering the opportunity to observe contemporary urban landscaping and Victorian gardens in more than 20 private yards throughout the community. The Garden Walk, this year, will focus on gardens from 29th Street and North.

Festival Activities and Music—June 3 and 4

The festival in the Dell will feature vendors, artisans, food, kids' games and activities, beer, and free live music. Current scheduled performance times are as follows:

Noon: Carl Grubbs and Friends (Jazz)
1:30-3:30: The Junkyard Saints (Latin/Swing)
4-5:30: The Al Maniscalco Quartet (Jazz)
6-8: The Crawdaddys (Cajun/Roots Rock)

11-1: Sentimental Journey (Big Band)
1:30-3:30: Lafayette Gilchrist (Jazz)
4-6: Carey Zieglars Expensive Hobby

Festival proceeds will benefit the Village Learning Place, Friends of Wyman Park Dell, The Charles Village Recreation League, The Charles Village Civic Association and "Common Ground," a community-based initiative to improve six playgrounds in Greater Charles Village and Waverly.
