SOURCE: Baltimore City Department of Public Works
The city’s fall Household Hazardous Waste drop-off days are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, October 28thth and 29th. This semi-annual event allows residents to rid their homes, basements, garages, and storage sheds of hazardous household material by dropping it off at the Polytechnic Institute parking lot, at Falls Road and Cold Spring Lane. Items will be collected from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. on October 28, and from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. on October 29.

This event provides an opportunity to properly dispose of materials such as bleach, pesticides, herbicides, car and household batteries, propane tanks, drain cleaner, gasoline, and pool chemicals. All materials must be taken to the Polytechnic location; there is no collection of these wastes at residents' homes. Proof of city residency (a driver's license, telephone bill or tax bill) is required to drop off items, and you must be able to identify the material on a survey form.

Trash that will not be collected includes: unknown or unlabeled materials, acids, asbestos, medical waste, fire extinguishers, radioactive materials (including smoke alarms with a radioactive symbol), and explosives.
For additional information or to find out more about the proper disposal of household hazardous waste, call 311.

To dispose of materials that will not be collected, call the Environmental Protection Agency at 410-631-3343.
