SPEAKING OUT--READ AT YOUR OWN RISK:

Let’s Take Some Bets!

by Bia Winter

So the Pentagon wanted to play Bookie in this latest of blatant outrages we are regularly treated to in Bush's America—this one, mercifully, to be immediately shouted down by decent folks everywhere and even the Press!

This news that DARPA and the Pentagon wanted to be able to take bets on another Terrorist Attack was about the most brazenly corrupt of all the absurdities we've seen lately. According to their website, Darpa stands for “The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency. It’s the central research and development organization for the Department of Defense (DoD). It manages and directs selected basic and applied research and development projects for DoD, and “pursues research and technology where risk and payoff are both very high and where success may provide dramatic advances for traditional military roles and missions." (Read that again and let it really sink in!) One can only begin to imagine the malevolent Insider Trading that could result from a situation like that!

And, pray tell, whose bright and bodacious idea was this, but a certain Mr. Poindexter, another of the well-known international criminals infesting the Bush Administration, this one from the Iran-Contra Scandal (remember, Guns for Drugs?). This guy has the connections and ability to create another terrorist attack! (He was immediately removed from his position, but I have no doubt they're still doing all this down in the "Shadow Government".)

Thanks to this administation's stonewalling, we haven't yet even been able to find out who made the unprecedented trades, selling off stock from the two airlines involved in 9-11 just a day or two before THAT disaster! Meanwhile, despite the Saudis’ protests, a huge 28-page chunk of the 9-11 Commission's report is blacked out—a report that, had Bush had his way, and without steadfast insistence from the families and survivors, would never even have seen the light of day at all?

Are Americans even aware that this would not be the first time an attack was "allowed" in order to motivate the populace to War? Remember Pearl Harbor? Roosevelt knew 14 days before that, and let it happen. Remember the Gulf of Tonkin incident that motivated us to Viet Nam, and the sinking of the Maine before that, and "Operation Northwoods" ? That's hardly the kind of things you'll find in the kiddies' history books, but, Yes, Virginia, it's true. Churchill "allowed" the Lusitania to be sunk to get us into the first World War and Hitler bombed his own Reichstag to herd the Germans into his war. Are you starting to get the picture?

How deaf, dumb, and blind do Americans have to be not to smell this rat? How can anyone give this "president" an approval rating (if you believe those polls) while this stench of deceit hangs so thickly in the air? Has the average American lost his mind, perhaps had his reasoning terminally poisoned by all these lies? What is Bush hiding so strenuously? We need to find out before another attack, and certainly before the idiots re-elect him!

Incredibly, Bush wants to cut funds for airline security at a time like this. (Perhaps he's bucking for a new "Trifecta" in time for the 2004 elections?) I think Americans should be making some other bets, like, let’s take bets on how deeply our "leaders" were involved in the worst terrorist attack on this country! My bet is on the big rat(s) at the top, any day!
