Greater Homewood Interfaith Alliance Fundraiser
Local houses of worship that are members of the Greater Homewood Interfaith Alliance joined forces in support of public schools in April, when they raised money for seven nearby elementary and middle schools including Medfield Elementary School and Robert Poole Middle School in Hampden. Highlighting the month of fundraising was a dinner at Gertrude's restaurant, located in the Baltimore Museum of Art, on April 11. The restaurant donated 20% of its profits that evening to the Interfaith Alliance.

Buying Into Baltimore
On May 11, the Baltimore City Department of Housing and Community Development, along with the Live Baltimore Marketing Center, hosted the fourth annual Buying into Baltimore Home-Buying Fair and Neighborhood Tour at the Baltimore Polytechnic Institute. Participants were invited to take guided tours of featured city neighborhoods, view listings and open houses, and seek advice from local real estate agents, mortgage lenders, and community based non-profit organizations. To encourage potential buyers to explore Baltimore's neighborhoods, the city offered a $3,000 grant to the first 50 fairgoers to close on a house within 90 days of the event. According to Tracy Gosson, the director of Live Baltimore Marketing Center, "Over 80% of the participants stated that they discovered new areas in which to live that they may not have previously considered or even [known of] prior to the event." Among those regions chosen as the "Mayor's Healthy Neighboorhoods for 2002" were Garwyn Oaks, Southern Mondawmin, and Reservoir Hill. Hampden was featured by touring Buying Into Baltimore vehicles, along with Mt. Washington, Cylburn, Irvington, Ashburton, Hunting Ridge, Union Square, and others.
