'Painful Questions' Dares to Address 9/11

NEW BOOK PROVIDES BACKGROUND MEDIA IGNORE:

Painful Questions Dares to Address 9/11

by Scott Loughrey

Let’s return to 9/11/01. When the World Trade Center (WTC) towers fell, many of us felt a new form of terror like never before. A few hours later the authorities announced that Osama bin Laden, and not some domestic terrorist, was responsible. While the talking heads on TV were endlessly repeating footage of the planes hitting the WTC (but not Flight 77 hitting the Pentagon), emergency workers were sifting through the WTC rubble in a vain effort to recover survivors. To the confirmed surprise of some firefighters, not only were there very few bodies, but they discovered a major absence of desks, coffee pots, file cabinets or other likely artifacts from these office buildings. There was little more than dust and oddly burst steel.

Even more curious was the speed with which the rubble was removed and sold for scrap. It is being argued on the internet that the rubble was removed from the Twin Towers to enable survivor recovery and for subsequent detailed analyses. However, why was the rubble for World Trade Center 7 (WTC 7) taken away and scrapped so quickly? It had been evacuated hours before its sudden (and mysterious) collapse. The Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) report, published in May 2002, admitted that the particulars of why WTC 7 collapsed remains “unknown.” So why did the authorities rush to take away the evidence from the world’s most infamous crime scene?

These bombshell revelations and related interrogatories can be found in Eric Hufschmid’s new book, Painful Questions, an Analysis of the September 11 Attack (Endpoint Software, 2002, Eric Hufschmid). Painful Questions should really be considered two books. The first 110 pages are well-written, and relentlessly documented, and are focused on the destruction of the World Trade Center. The latter 44 pages are not as sharply written and largely discuss JFK’s assassination. I believe the parts of the book that concentrate on the WTC building collapses are extremely impressive and that’s where my comments lie.

Hufschmid asks many questions that the media need to address, as so far there has been no serious investigation of what happened on 9/11/01. (The Bush-Cheney administration has been actively discouraging lawmakers from pursuing those lines of inquiry.)

We’ve already seen the mainstream media roll out reports and documentaries of survivors and lost loved ones. We’ve also seen a great deal of puffery (e.g., from the Washington Post) illustrating the courage of our elected officials during that crisis. However, we haven’t seen the established media do in-depth investigations of what caused the WTC buildings to fall, and what happened at the Pentagon.

Hufschmid carefully examines photographs taken from the WTC collapses. He critiques the reports from the so-called experts that explain why they fell. He examines seismographic data. He cites the viewpoints of structural engineers. He examines the physical evidence at the Pentagon. Then he asks questions and then answers them. His conclusions will surprise many.

Painful Questions is outstanding overall. The public should be aware of the kinds of things that are discussed here while the corporate media looks elsewhere.
