Open Letter to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration

Date: September 10, 2002
Subject: Policies regarding SUVs

Comments: Have searched your website to no avail for actions NHTSA has taken/intends to take regarding pushing for improved safety of SUVs—not only about rollover risks and tire problems, but about the fact that many SUVs have bumpers that do not match the standardized bumper height of cars, thus putting drivers of smaller (and more fuel-efficient) vehicles at much greater risk in collisions with SUVs. What is the NHTSA doing about this? Thank you for a prompt reply.
