A Celebration at Memorial Stadium

Apublic celebration of the Stadium Place project will be held on Sunday, January 7 from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at the entrance to Memorial Stadium on East 33rd Street. The event will recognize community and church people for their support of the project, a mixed-use development to be built on the stadium site. Stadium Place will feature an affordable retirement community and a branch of the YMCA. The celebration will include hot chocolate and refreshments.

Govans Ecumenical Development Corporation (GEDCO) spearheaded the Stadium Place plan, which was selected by city officials in a competitive proposal process.

In addition to over $1 million in pledges toward the project thus far, GEDCO received word in November that HUD will award a $5.2 million grant for 71 apartments on the Stadium Place campus.

The celebration will be postponed in the event of bad weather. For information about Stadium Place, call 433-2442.

Endorsers of Stadium Place include the Archdiocese of Baltimore, the Alzheimer's Association, Better Waverly Community Association, Central Maryland Ecumenical Council, Coldstream/Homestead/Montebello Community Corporation, the Episcopal Diocese of Maryland, the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance, the Center for Poverty Solutions, Ednor Gardens-Lakeside Civic Association, Greater Homewood Community Corporation, the City of Baltimore Commission on Aging and Retirement Education, the Presbytery of Baltimore, St. Joseph Medical Center, and the Waverly Improvement Association.
