In Spite of Media Distortions, Lies, Deceit and Secrecy:

The Truth is Marching On

by Tina Staik

Citizens have been right all along!

Our common sense and good judgment have not deceived us, even though, for some time now, because our gut feelings have told us one thing, and corporate media another, we have grappled to get to the truth. We have known all along, however, that something was wrong. For decades, it turns out, a LOT of money went into manipulating our God-given human intelligence to create a topsy-turvy world in which we, full fledged American citizens, were trained to blindly and appreciatively follow the tune of corporate pied pipers.

To make things worse, many of the propaganda campaigns used to control our behaviors have been paid for by OUR tax dollars. Aiming for our minds, the bottom line of these campaigns has been to DE-democratize America and world, simply by telling lies about lies, and lies about truth. The methods, you see, are research based, and confusion is "proven" to be one of the best means of promulgating widespread deceit in cases where people value "democracy," thus, making it essential to mask oppression and tyrannical rule. The effectiveness of this method rests on getting people to attack one another, thereby, using them as pawns to further reinforce the lies, while the real thiefs run off with the goods.

American ideals have been so trampled by these propaganda campaigns that even the meanings of words, such as "democracy," "freedom," "free speech," "rights," "peace," which originally had great significance in the progressive movement upon which our nation was founded, have been twisted and distorted to mean, in most cases, the very opposite!

Thus, "peace," "civil liberties" and "human rights" are often associated with oppressive communist plots, espionage, or anarchists and low lifes who "disobey" government and rule of law (never mind that all of our democratic institutions were founded and shaped by dissenting voices every step of the way). "Free speech" stirs our passion only in protecting the rights of violence/sex/pornography entertainment industries, which bombard our young people's minds with dehumanizing images of human worth (never mind the severe limitations "free speech" rights to criticize Bush).

Under the guise of "defending democracy" from "our enemies," our country appears to have been incrementally transformed into a military fascist state in which there is no higher cause than war (this justifies oppression and neglect of citizen needs), in which an obsession with sex/violence/materialism is norm (this keeps alive the motivation for war), in which voiceless people go through the motions of activism (this dupes them into thinking they have a democratic government), in which corporations conspire to steal from citizens at will, in which corporate lawyers create legislation to subvert public policy and our justice system, in which real decisions are not made in front of CSPAN cameras, but rather in back room deals and secret corporate tribunals. [TRADING DEMOCRACY?: DOCUMENTS FROM NAFTA'S SECRET TRIBUNALS]

Research and those who justify its use as means to achieve social order, however, are wrong. They may have tinkered with our minds, but our hearts remained true to American ideals. Most of all, the human spirit, particularly the inner Spirit of justice (with or without Ashcroft-style robes) can never be subdued with finality, any more than the laws of the Universe can.

Spiritual gifts are governed by universal laws. Only fools, blinded by their greed, refuse to see the futility of attempts that inevitably form traps to ensnare them.

The truth is marching on.

Wonder why we have to search to find coverage of current issues of utmost concern to our safety and well being, for example, whether there was government complicity and foreknowledge of the 9/11 attacks? [COPVCIA Reference]

Wonder about the right wing media's preoccupation with themselves as "liberalmedia"? ["The right sort: The Conservative Media"]

Wonder why legitimate, nonviolent, unarmed protesters are portrayed by corporate media as cowardly, violent anarchists, while armed and shielded police are portrayed as brave protectors? ["Protests against the "Conference on Security Policy" in Munich, Germany"]

Wonder how our tax dollars have been used by the FBI in programs like COINTELPRO to subvert opposition to war and promote blind trust of those in government who may act to rob us of our civil rights? [COINTELPRO: an acronym for the FBI's domestic "counterintelligence programs" to neutralize political dissidents.]

Wonder how Hollywood and celebrities are shaped by right wing factions within government to promote a pro-war conservative agenda? [FBI Activities in Hollywood]

Wonder how campaign financing is used to "set up" Democrats as advocates for "free speech" rights of entertainment industries, thereby, permitting the right wing to grab votes of moderates, especially women's, by discrediting "liberals" as "godless" and "immoral"? [OpenSecrets Reference]

In sum, a lot of time, money and energy has gone into manipulating our minds to control our behaviors, shaping us into robotic beings who ultimately serve and promote the profit making interests of self-proclaimed corporate gods. Some thought they could make a topsy-turvy world, and, yes, many citizens and leaders alike were duped into giving passionate support for corporate welfare hand-outs that benefit few at the expense of many, while simultaneously denouncing social welfare initiatives that benefit all in some measure.

Oppressors, however, may win battles here and there, but innate human intelligence and truth are, some would say, Spiritual gifts, offered to each and every human being—red and yellow, black and white—from birth.

Each of us is born with an unquenchable thirst for knowledge, an insatiable hunger for meaning and life purpose. Although these innate yearnings often require a certain climate for cultivation, there will always be those who are committed to bringing us discovery and truth. Some of us like to think of truth tellers as gifts from Life itself. To mention a few...

We have learned that the "American way" has nothing to do with bowing to serve corporate interests by living meaningless shop-till-you-drop lives, gorging on junk, taking pills to numb the pain. The American way has to do with fully realizing our rights to participate as engaged and involved citizens in building better communities for our families, children and friends.

Now, if only our leaders would learn THEIR lessons, ending the corruption, dropping dangerous plans to dominate the world, guaranteeing OUR involvement and oversight instead. Then, they would find that WE-THE-PEOPLE are invaluable assets in the formation and preservation of a socially just and peaceful world.
