During the World Economic Forum in Davos, U.S. President Donald Trump directed sharp criticism at the European Union, claiming that Brussels does not demonstrate a fair approach in trade negotiations with the United States, reports Baltimore Chronicle with reference to Politico.

The statement came shortly after his first official meeting with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. According to Trump, the U.S. is engaged in talks with the EU, but the conditions proposed are, in his view, unfavorable to the American side. “We are negotiating, but I don’t think they are offering a fair deal. They will either make a good deal or just pay what we tell them,” the president stated.

In his address, Trump also reiterated his long-held view that the European Union was allegedly created with the purpose of economically weakening the United States through trade.
