Protesters in Iași shouted at Romanian President Nicușor Dan and demanded he go to Ukraine during his official visit to the city.

In the city of Iași, Romanian President Nicușor Dan was met by a group of protesters shouting insults and demanding that he go to Ukraine, reports Baltimore Chronicle with reference to News.ro and Digi24.

Dozens of demonstrators gathered outside the National Theatre, where a ceremonial event was taking place to mark the 165th anniversary of two of the city’s leading universities. As President Dan exited his vehicle and approached the theatre, the crowd shouted phrases such as “Shame,” “Traitor,” and “Go to Ukraine.” One man called out to the head of state: “You are the weakest president.”

Despite the hostile reception, Nicușor Dan maintained composure and acknowledged the protesters, waving to them twice.

The president arrived in Iași after a visit to Brussels. During his speech at the National Theatre, he emphasized that the current era is one where “many values are being questioned.” Dan stressed the importance of promoting knowledge and advocating for a world “where decisions are made based on expertise and facts.”

Following the speech, the president was scheduled to join a video call with the “coalition of the willing,” a group of countries committed to supporting Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression.
