The Ministry of Social Policy has named the real size of the subsistence level minimum in Ukraine

Food expenses make up the majority of Ukrainians' expenses.

The Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine published statistics on the actual cost of living for both people, as well as for the main social and demographic groups of the population.

According to the Ministry, expenses for food amount to more than 3,700 UAH, for non-food products – 1,196 UAH, for utility bills – 1,200 UAH, and for communication services – 67 UAH.

Data was collected based on prices for June 2024 years and calculated in accordance with Article 5 of the Law of Ukraine “On the Living Wage”.

Calculations were carried out for able-bodied and disabled citizens, as well as for children under 6 years old and from 6 to 18 years old.

It was previously reported that in Ukraine in 2024 the subsistence level will be recalculated, but even after that its actual amount will be many times higher than that used to calculate payments.

The Constitution guarantees: the state must ensure a standard of living not lower than the subsistence level minimum established by law. And if a Ukrainian has lost the ability to work, he must receive payments, the amount of which will not be lower than the minimum.

The actual cost of living is radically different from the amount that the Cabinet of Ministers uses to calculate pensions and benefits. In particular, officials now use the living wage in the amount of:

Recall that the Ukrainian government adopted the draft budget 2024 on September 15. The document provides for its own revenues of the general budget fund in UAH 1 trillion 560 billion and general fund expenses of UAH 3 trillion 108 billion.

Citizens’ salaries will increase. The average salary in 2024 will be UAH 21,852.

The budget itself includes an increase in the minimum wage. In 2024, it will be increased in January from 6,700 to 7,100 UAH and in July to 8,000 UAH.
