Popular Vegetable Has Increased in Price Sharply in Ukraine

Popular vegetable prices have risen sharply in Ukraine

Prices have risen for the first time since the beginning of the year.

The price of onions has risen in Ukraine. The main reason for the rise in price of this vegetable was the reduction in the supply of onions on the Ukrainian market due to the seasonal factor.

This was reported by analysts of the EastFruit project.

Thus, as of July 27, producers shipped onions at 10-16 UAH/kg ($0.24-0.39/kg), which is on average 15% more expensive than at the beginning of the week.

Market players noted that the reason for the price increase was the off-season period. In particular, many farmers have already completed the sale of existing volumes of onions, while only a few farms have started harvesting later varieties.

Analysts added that even after such a noticeable increase in prices, onions in Ukraine are now on average 26% cheaper than at the end of July 2023.

According to farmers, the rise in onion prices is temporary. They noted that the downward price trend on the market will resume as soon as the supply of onions from local farms begins to increase.

Earlier it became known that in Ukraine a decision was made to “freeze” the subsistence minimum and minimum wage for the next three years. At the same time, only in 2025, according to the macroeconomic forecast, which is included in the budget declaration, inflation is expected at the level of 10%.
