According to the Minister of Finance, the possible shadowing of the market is a problem for law enforcement agencies.
Buying a car during martial law is not a prime necessity. Therefore, the bill on increasing taxes, registered by the Cabinet of Ministers in the Verkhovna Rada, provides, in particular, for the introduction of a military tax in the amount of 15% of the cost of the vehicle during its first registration. The Ministry of Finance believes that this innovation will not cause problems for the car market and citizens.
This opinion was expressed by Finance Minister Sergei Marchenko in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.
According to Marchenko, car dealers are criticizing the Finance Ministry's tax innovations and warning that the tightening of tax pressure will lead to the car market moving into the shadows.
“This may indeed happen in part. But then this is a question for law enforcement agencies, which must fight the shadow market,” the minister noted.
He is confident that in a country that has been at war for three years and there is no end in sight, buying a car is not an urgent critical need.
“We have a security problem, a house is burning, and you say that we don't need to buy fire extinguishers, but rather buy a car. No problem, buy a new car, but also support the armed forces. Secondly, cars for the security and defense sector are imported duty-free and without paying VAT,” Marchenko said.
We remind you that according to Danil Getmantsev, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Financial, Tax and Customs Policy, the government's bill on raising taxes is not optimal and needs to be revised, but raising certain taxes cannot be avoided.
