Power banks will not become cheaper: customs officials explained the details of the new law

At the same time, the legislation provides for certain restrictions on such goods.

Power banks and small charging stations are not covered by the new customs law, so they will not cost less.

This was reported by the State Customs Service of Ukraine.

The department explained that an electric battery is a chemical source of electric current of repeated action, the peculiarity of which lies in the reversibility of internal chemical processes, which ensures its repeated cyclic use (through charge-discharge) for the accumulation of electricity and autonomous power supply of various electrical devices and systems.

The report also states that, according to the requirements of the Ukrainian Classification of Goods for Foreign Economic Activity (UKT VED), electric batteries are classified within the heading 8507. The designation “electric batteries” applies to electric batteries presented with additional components that facilitate the battery's function of storing and delivering damage, such as electrical, temperature controllers (for example, thermistors) and protection devices.

“Accumulators consisting of one or more electrochemical cells connected in series and an electrical circuit for connecting the cells together, often called “storage batteries”, are classified in this heading regardless of whether they incorporate auxiliary components that facilitate the battery's function of storing and delivering energy or protect it from damage, such as electrical connectors, temperature controllers (e.g. thermistors), electrical circuits and others,” the report says.

At the same time, portable chargers are reported to differ in their technical characteristics – capacity, power, the ability to convert current (direct to alternating, changing frequency or voltage, etc.).

Due to their performance characteristics and safety, the most common type of battery used in portable chargers are lithium-ion. According to the requirements of the Ukrainian Classification of Goods for Foreign Economic Activity (UKT VED), such batteries are classified in a different product subcategory.

“A portable charging station with a power of 200 W/capacity of 151 W/h (40800 mAh) and a power bank with a power of 100 W and a capacity of 40000 mAh are not subject to these laws,” the department noted.

We remind you that in Ukraine, starting from July 27, charging stations, generators and solar panels will become cheaper. They can be imported into Ukraine without taxes and fees.
