Demand for tomatoes remains low.
The price of greenhouse tomatoes has decreased in Ukraine this week. In many regions, the weather has stabilized, which has allowed the campaign for harvesting soil tomatoes to resume.
This was reported by analysts of the EastFruit project.
Tomatoes are being harvested in almost all regions of the country, but demand from buyers for this product remains low due to unsatisfactory quality indicators.
Thus, as of August 2, prices for quality tomatoes fell to 20-40 UAH/kg ($ 0.49-0.97/kg), which is on average 22% cheaper than at the end of the last working week.
According to producers and wholesale companies, there are problems with sales due to the low quality of tomatoes.
“Plants suffer greatly from hot dry weather, the fruits are damaged by sunburn, cracks often appear on them, reducing the marketable appearance of the products,” the report says.
Analysts noted that at present, prices for tomatoes on the domestic market are on average 25% more expensive than a year ago. Ukrainian producers explain this situation by the general decline in tomato production in the country.
Earlier it became known that the growth of food prices will occur gradually, most likely in the fall. It is associated with the introduction of generators in the processing industry.
