What pension fee will have to be paid when buying a car: explanation from the Pension Fund of Ukraine

The amount of the pension fee is determined depending on the cost of the vehicle and the subsistence minimum.

When first registering a passenger car in Ukraine, individuals and legal entities must pay a fee for compulsory state pension insurance. The amount of the pension fee depends on the cost of the car and the subsistence minimum.

This was reported by the main office of the Pension Fund of Ukraine in the Odessa region.

“The amount of the pension fee depends on the cost of the car and the subsistence minimum for able-bodied persons (SMOP), which from January 1, 2024 is UAH 3,028,” the report says.

The PFU explained that the cost of the car is determined in accordance with the purchase and sale agreement, the exchange agreement, a certificate from the customs service, an expert assessment of the cost or other documents confirming the price paid for the vehicle.

All cars are legally divided into three price categories, for which different percentage rates of the pension tax are set:

The Pension Fund noted that in some cases buyers are exempt from paying the pension tax. In particular, the tax is not paid to the PFU:

At the same time, cars imported into Ukraine as humanitarian aid are not eligible for preferential registration without paying the pension tax.

Vehicle registration is a mandatory procedure that every car owner must go through. Previously, this required a lot of time and nerves, standing in live queues, but now everything has changed. Let us remind you how to get into the electronic queue for car registration and what documents are needed for this.
