Military tax in Ukraine: how taxes will change from September 1

Increasing rates is considered a fair solution for financing the Defense Forces during the war.

Ukrainians may face an increase in taxes, including an increase in the military tax. Plans to increase the military tax for individual entrepreneurs will remain unchanged.

This is reported by the publication “24 Kanal”.

For individuals, the military tax will increase from 1.5% to 5%, while for individual entrepreneurs of group III it will be 1% of income. For other groups, the tax will be 5% of the amount calculated on the basis of two minimum salaries per month.

At the same time, most citizens evade paying personal income tax, military tax and unified social contribution, preferring to optimize taxation using minimum salaries or individual entrepreneurs.

“Of those officially employed, 70% are in the public sector, where you can't hide your salary, but the share of the public sector is not significant compared to all those working in the country. That is why expanding the tax base with military tax is the right step so that every working citizen of Ukraine has the opportunity to make their contribution to supporting the Armed Forces,” he noted.

The Minister believes that increasing the military tax rate from 1.5% to 5% for Ukrainians' salaries, as well as extending it to legal entities (1% of turnover) and individual transactions of individuals (from 5% to 30%), is a fair measure in the conditions of war to ensure the financing of the defense forces.

As Finance Minister Serhiy Marchenko stated, now it is mainly the public sector that pays “white” salaries with official tax deductions.

Reviewing the military tax and a number of other measures will attract an additional UAH 121.8 billion for the security and defense sector, including the following steps:

In addition, a military tax will be introduced for certain transactions:

Let us recall that the Ukrainian government is considering increasing budget revenues. Earlier, they stated that there is no alternative to raising taxes.

The Verkhovna Rada will not vote for the bill on raising a number of taxes until September, and the concept of the document itself has changed.

The government wants to raise taxes and bring the income of people who receive salaries “in envelopes” out of the shadows
