The National Bank will limit card-to-card transfers for six months: details

The restrictions have been introduced to combat money laundering and the shadow economy

From October 1, 2024, the National Bank of Ukraine sets a limit of UAH 150,000 per month for transfers between cards of individuals for six months.

This is discussed on the National Bank's website.

The limit of UAH 150,000 per month applies only to card-to-card transfers between individuals in the same bank. It does not apply to volunteer transfers, individuals with confirmed incomes of over UAH 150,000 per month, transfers between the client's own accounts in one bank, or transactions using IBAN details.

According to the NBU, these restrictions will not affect 98% of users, since most of them do not exceed this limit. The NBU emphasizes that the new rules do not affect the activities of volunteers, who must meet at least two of the five criteria defined for their identification.

The restrictions were introduced to combat the illegal use of payment systems, in particular, with “drops” – individuals who transfer their card details for money laundering. In 2024, more than 80 thousand clients were already disconnected by banks due to participation in such schemes, and about 200 billion UAH per year may pass through the cards of “drops”.

Recall that the National Bank predicts a difficult situation in the energy sector and the state budget, which will lead to a gradual increase in tariffs in the coming years.
