Tomato prices are climbing.
In Ukraine, for the third week in a row, there has been a trend of rising tomato prices. One of the reasons was a sharp reduction in the supply of tomatoes from local factories.
This was reported by analysts of the EastFruit project.
Market participants noted that due to limited supply, demand for greenhouse tomatoes remains high, which is why producers have once again raised selling prices this week.
Thus, as of August 30, the price of tomatoes is within 40-55 UAH/kg ($0.97-1.34/kg), which is on average 12% more expensive than at the end of the last working week.
According to market participants, active demand for tomatoes has been maintained for the third week in a row.
“At the same time, the supply of these products on the market was gradually decreasing due to the seasonal factor. The samples in the factories were small and unstable, shipments from summer greenhouses and open soil were practically not carried out,” the report says.
Analysts added that tomatoes in Ukraine are already on sale at an average of 2.4 times more expensive than at the end of August 2023. Experts do not rule out a further increase in prices in this segment with a reduction in samples in local farms.
Recall that the day before, the NBU reported that further acceleration of inflation due to increased business costs for labor and electricity, higher excise taxes and the effects of the hryvnia devaluation carryover.
