NBU introduces new rules for supermarkets on cash payments

The rules come into force on September 1.

From September 1, new rules for issuing cash at supermarket checkouts came into force in Ukraine.

This is stated in a statement by the NBU.

Now customers can refuse to receive banknotes and coins that are in poor condition, and cashiers are prohibited from issuing such money as part of the “cash at the checkout” service.

It is noted that the money provided to customers must be suitable for circulation and not raise doubts about their authenticity and solvency. Instead, damaged banknotes must be withdrawn from circulation and transferred to banks along with other proceeds.

“This means that now every customer has the right to demand cash of proper quality at supermarket checkouts. If the customer receives worn banknotes, he can refuse them, and the cashier is obliged to replace them,” the statement says.

At the same time, the cashier cannot refuse to exchange money, but if the cashier violates these rules, the buyer can file a complaint against the cashier's actions.

Earlier it became known that the National Bank imposed a ban on the issuance of cash to businesses. Read more about this in the news.
