Should We Expect a Jump in the Dollar Exchange Rate: Economist's Forecast

Should we expect a jump in the dollar exchange rate: an economist's forecast

During a war, any country always experiences a devaluation of the national currency.

Whether the dollar reaches 50 hryvnia will depend on the situation at the front. Therefore, it is impossible to predict when this will happen and whether it will happen at all.

This was stated by Doctor of Social Economics, economist Zinoviy Svereda on air at KIEV24.

“As we see, when our Western partners come, in parallel with military aid we always discuss financial issues, financial cooperation. Because during a war in any country there is always a devaluation of the national currency. This has happened at all times, all over the world. And we will not be able to avoid this process,” the expert noted.

He added that it is impossible to accurately predict when the dollar will cost 50 hryvnia or more.

“This will depend not so much on various types of financial transactions, but on the situation at the front. That is, if we want to have a free convertible hryvnia in the world, stable and strong, we must win the war,” Zinoviy Svereda emphasized.

Recall that Ukraine has reached an agreement with the International Monetary fund on a new tranche. Following these agreements, the National Bank will move toward greater flexibility of the hryvnia exchange rate against the dollar.
