Electricity tariffs to increase in October: details of the NKREKP decision

Two arguments in favor of raising prices have been named.

The National Commission for State Regulation of Energy and Public Utilities (NKREKP) has revised electricity tariffs and will make a corresponding decision on October 1.

The details of the increase in electricity tariffs are set out in the draft resolution of the NKREKP, published on the agency's portal.

The text of the draft states that it is planned to amend the resolution on electricity tariffs adopted May 20, 2024. Several arguments are listed in favor of raising prices. One of these arguments is that companies need money to recover from Russian shelling. Another argument is to align prices with foreign ones. Then it will be profitable for the Ukrainian market to buy capacities for balancing in the European Union.

The draft resolution consists of five pages. The penultimate one lists new tariffs for electricity supply, which will come into effect on October 30 (if the resolution is approved). The changes affect the day-ahead market, and there are no changes for the balancing market.
