 Inflation in Ukraine is accelerating: how it affected prices

The rise in prices in Ukraine in September was the highest since the beginning of the year.

In September, inflation in the consumer market accelerated to 1.7%. Since the beginning of the year, prices have increased by 6.5%.

This is stated in the State Statistics Service report.

Compared to the same period last year, inflation has increased to 8.6%.

Core inflation in September compared to August accelerated to 1.7%, since the beginning of the year – to 6.6%.

In the consumer market, prices for food products and soft drinks increased by 1.8%. The biggest increase in price (by 12.1%) was observed for eggs.

Prices for vegetables, butter, milk and dairy products, sunflower oil, processed grain products, soft drinks, bread, meat and meat products, and rice increased by 3.8-1.1%.

At the same time, prices for sugar and fruits decreased by 1.8% and 0.2%.

Prices for alcoholic beverages and tobacco products increased by 1.4%, which is associated with a 2.6% increase in the price of tobacco products.

Clothing and footwear increased in price by 7.8%, including clothing by 7.9% and footwear by 7.7%.

Prices for transport increased by 0.8%, mainly due to a 1.0% increase in the price of fuel and lubricants. At the same time, the cost of travel on railway passenger transport fell by 3%.

At the same time, educational services rose in price by 10.1%, namely: higher education by 11.8%, secondary education by 11.1%.

Recall that the day before, the NBU reported that further acceleration of inflation is expected in the coming months due to an increase in business costs for wages and electricity, an increase in excise taxes and the effects of the transfer of the hryvnia devaluation.
