Onion prices have fallen: how much have they fallen in price

Over the week, the price has fallen by an average of 11%.

At the end of September, there was a positive trend in onions on the market. Now prices for them have begun to fall, but they are still higher than last year.

EastFruit writes about this.

According to experts, the main reasons for the price reduction are weakening demand for the product and increasing supply. Producers have begun actively harvesting onions in the central and western regions of the country.

Now they can be purchased in wholesale lots for 8-14 hryvnia per kilogram. Over the week, the price has decreased by an average of 11%.

According to experts, the onion price also fell due to the availability of products of medium and low quality and worsening weather, which in turn made the goods unsuitable for long-term storage.

“Trying to sell such onions as quickly as possible, farmers are now repeatedly reporting a decrease in selling prices. Meanwhile, high-quality products are now rarely available for sale, since farmers prefer to keep them in storage, expecting higher prices,” analysts note.

At the same time, onions are on average 15% more expensive than in the past.

Earlier, the State Statistics Service reported an acceleration of inflation. How this affected prices – read in the news.
