The total amount of payments under the IMF-supported program will be $8.7 billion.
The IMF Executive Board has approved the fifth review of the Extended Fund Facility (EFF), which will allow Ukraine to receive a new tranche of about $1.1 billion in the near future.
This was announced by Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.
“We will use these funds to cover important non-military budget expenditures,” the head of the Ukrainian government said.
Denys Shmyhal added that the tranche schedule for 2025 was optimized during the review, which will attract more resources to the state budget.
“Thank you to the Fund for its continued consistent support for Ukraine's financial sustainability,” the Prime Minister wrote.
The International Monetary Fund's press release noted that after this tranche, the total disbursement under the IMF-supported program will amount to USD 8.7 billion.
The IMF recalled that the 48-month EFF agreement for Ukraine with access to USD 15.5 billion was approved on March 31, 2023 and is part of a support package for Ukraine worth USD 151.4 billion.
“The [Ukraine] economy has proven more resilient than expected in the first half of 2024, with continued growth, moderate inflation, and ample reserves, supported by strong external support. However, the outlook for the remainder of the year and 2025 has deteriorated since the Fourth Review, mainly due to Russia’s sustained attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure and uncertainty over the war; overall, the outlook remains extremely uncertain,” the press release said.
Let us recall that by the end of 2024, the World Bank predicts GDP growth in Ukraine at 3.2%. Next year, this figure will decline, but already in 2026, GDP growth in Ukraine is predicted to reach 7%.
