Seoul concerned about North Korean troops being sent to Russia.
A South Korean government delegation will visit Ukraine this week to share information about the sending of North Korean troops to Russia.
This was reported by the Yonhap News Agency.
South Korean President Yoon Seok-yul shared his plans during a telephone conversation with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. He confirmed that North Korean troops had been deployed to Russia's Kursk region, on the front line, to fight in the war in Ukraine.
“I hope that under the leadership of Secretary General Rutte, NATO will redouble its efforts to monitor and block illegal exchanges between Russia and North Korea in solidarity and coordination,” he said.
Yun Seok-yul noted that on October 29, the South Korean delegation will hold a briefing for the EU Political and Security Committee and then visit Ukraine.
It is noted that the South Korean president also spoke with the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen. The politicians discussed the movement of North Korean troops and discussed cooperation with members of the European Union.
“This is a serious situation where the actual deployment of North Korean troops on the front line in Ukraine may happen earlier than expected,” Yun noted.
Recall that the US Pentagon reported that North Korea has sent about 10,000 troops to Russia for exercises and participation in the war in Ukraine. The troops may join the fighting within the next few weeks.
