Banks in Ukraine are required to accept foreign currency without restrictions on denomination or year of issue. This is regulated by the NBU rules, which stipulate that all banknotes, except for heavily worn or damaged ones, must be exchanged.

According to the NBU's explanations, all foreign banknotes that are legal tender in their countries must be accepted for exchange. For example, a $100 banknote issued in 2006 must be exchanged at the standard rate.

Financial institutions do not have the right to set their own restrictions on the year of issue or denomination of currency banknotes. However, if the banknote is significantly damaged, heavily worn, or is detected as a counterfeit during inspection, the bank or exchange office may refuse to exchange it.

We remind you that from November 1, 2024, the National Bank will begin gradually replacing banknotes of 50 and 200 hryvnia denominations of 2003-2007 (i.e. the old model) with banknotes of similar denominations of the current generation (2014 model and subsequent years of issue).
