Prices continue to rise: cucumber prices are rising in Ukraine

The season for selling local cucumbers is coming to an end.

In Ukraine, prices for greenhouse cucumbers have continued to rise for four weeks in a row. One of the reasons for this situation was a significant reduction in the supply of cucumbers from local farms.

This was reported by analysts of the EastFruit project.

Experts noted that local farmers manage to raise prices for their products almost daily until the end of the season.

Thus, as of November 1, producers shipped greenhouse cucumbers from 90 to 115 UAH/kg ($2.18-2.79/kg) depending on the quality and volume of the batch, which is on average 13% more expensive than the week before.

Analysts added that many factories have already announced the actual end of the sales season, while other farms offer these products only in small batches.

“At the same time, the demand for cucumbers on the domestic market of Ukraine remains quite high, which provokes a rapid rise in prices,” the report says.

It is worth noting that greenhouse factories are currently managing to sell cucumbers already on average 57% more expensive than for the same period of the previous year. Market players noted that they do not rule out the possibility of further price growth in this segment.

Recall that the day before, the NBU reported that in the coming months, further acceleration of inflation is expected due to increased business expenses on wages and electricity, increased excise taxes and the effect of the transfer of the hryvnia devaluation.
