October and November are traditionally the period of rising egg prices.
Prices for eggs have risen significantly in Ukrainian stores and markets. Experts say the reason for the increase in prices is the seasonal factor and the growth in feed prices.
First Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Taras Vysotsky told about this in a commentary to Suspilny.
He notes that due to the cold weather, the productivity of chickens is decreasing, and there is also a renewal of the herd, which usually leads to a decrease in the number of eggs. According to a representative of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, in October of this year, egg production decreased by 5% compared to last year.
Another significant factor affecting the cost of eggs is the rise in feed costs. High grain prices following the resumption of exports have increased the cost of egg production, as grain crops make up the bulk of feed. Although this increases farmers' income, more expensive feed increases the final cost of eggs.
Vysotsky predicts that the maximum prices for eggs will be observed in early November. Subsequently, their cost will gradually decrease. However, there is one condition for this – stable operation of the energy system.
“The practice of 2 years ago showed that the beginning of November is the peak and then there is a gradual leveling off and decrease in egg prices. Definitely after the New Year, this decrease will be very frequent and dramatic,” he noted.
As reported, the price of honey has changed sharply in Ukraine. The cost of honey began to decline last season, and has not increased this year. Several factors influenced the low price of honey.
