The changes to the law allow for insurance experience earned abroad, except for Russia, to be taken into account.

Employment outside the country is also included in the insurance experience for receiving a pension for Ukrainian citizens.

However, the Law of Ukraine “On Amendments to Certain Laws of Ukraine Regulating the Calculation of Insurance Experience and Pension Provision” provides for certain exceptions, writes “Focus”.

In particular, the law provides that periods of work outside of Ukraine are considered insurance experience for persons residing in Ukraine if this is provided for by law or international treaties of Ukraine. In the absence of information exchange between the pension authorities of the two states, the person must inform the Pension Fund of Ukraine about this in a corresponding application.

Also, the work experience of persons residing in Ukraine includes periods of work activity before January 1, 1992 in the republics of the former USSR. However, this is possible only if another state does not make pension payments to such persons for the specified periods.

What is not counted in the insurance experience when calculating a pension

Work activity outside Ukraine and in the temporarily occupied territories (TOT) of Ukraine after February 19, 2014 is not counted in the insurance experience outside Ukraine for a person who, after February 19, 2014:
