Food prices: what will go up in prices in stores on the eve of the New Year holidays

Grocery prices: what will go up in price in stores on the eve of the New Year holidays

In Ukraine, food prices continue to rise steadily.

In November, food prices rose sharply, especially for the main categories. But December promises a short break in growth – at least for the first two weeks.

This forecast was made by Oleg Pendzin, executive director of the Economic Discussion Club, in an interview with Glavred.

However, the lull in the food market will not last long. Starting from December 15, Ukrainians should prepare for a new wave of price increases. And this time, the cost of popular holiday table products will skyrocket.

“We expect a plateau in price growth for about two weeks in December. Later, from December 15, growth will begin again. But first of all, prices will start to rise for those goods that previously rose in price the least, namely meat, smoked meats, meat products and fish. Eggs will also rise in price. All this will happen before the holidays, when Ukrainians will stock up on products,” Pendzin said.

Price growth on the eve of the winter holidays is a traditional phenomenon. The main reason is increased demand. People begin to actively purchase products for the New Year's table, which provokes additional pressure on the market. The highest prices are expected in the second half of December, closer to the New Year.

Currently, chicken eggs cost an average of 63-64 hryvnia per dozen, but this stability will not last long. Meat, smoked meats and fish are other categories that will be the first to be hit by a price blow. The good news for consumers is that prices will stabilize after the New Year's rush. According to forecasts, the first ten days of January will bring the so-called “price plateau”.

Demand will decrease, because most Ukrainians will have already spent most of their money on the holidays.

Earlier it was reported that food prices in Ukraine will rise in November. Read more about this in the news.
