From the beginning of the new year, the price of a pack of cigarettes will increase by 40 UAH.
The Verkhovna Rada Committee on Finance, Tax and Customs Policy generally supported government bill No. 11090 on increasing excise taxes on cigarettes. The legislative initiative was supported by 18 committee members, only one abstained “due to the fickle position of the Finance Ministry.”
This was reported by the first deputy chairman of the committee, Yaroslav Zheleznyak, who, in fact, did not vote.
The bill, in particular, provides for a gradual increase in excise tax rates on tobacco products over four years, taking into account the minimum level determined by EU Directive 2011/64.
“The excise tax on cigarettes is tied to the euro, not the hryvnia. The rates themselves are in the table. In fact, from the new year, cigarettes will cost 40 UAH more,” the MP noted.
It is expected that next year the law will allow an additional UAH 20 billion to be added to the budget.
Recall that the appearance of cigarettes has changed in Ukraine since January. According to the new rules, 65% of the pack should be occupied by a warning about the dangers of smoking.
