Crazy prices: what is the reason for the rise in food prices

The rise in prices is due to economic and seasonal factors, as well as increased production costs.

Food prices continue to rise in Ukraine. In November, eggs and vegetables increased in price the most, but fruits and sugar decreased in price compared to the previous month.

This was reported by the State Statistics Service.

Compared to October, the cost of food increased by an average of 4%, and over the year – by 14.4%. The price increase was led by eggs, which rose by 54.6% per month and by 30.6% per year. This price increase is explained by seasonal factors, a decrease in production volumes, and higher feed prices.

Dairy products rose by 5.6% per month. In this case, the increase in cost is due to high production and transportation costs.

Vegetables also rose in price. Due to limited availability on the market and difficulties in logistics, they rose in price by 13.7% per month and by 62.9% per year.

Due to higher prices for grain and energy, bread rose in price by 2.2% per month, and pasta by 1.7%.

However, the price of fruit fell by 1.5% per month, although it rose by 24.7% per year. Sugar can also be purchased 3.6% cheaper than last year. This may be due to an increase in the sugar beet harvest.

According to statistics, inflation in November 2024 was 1.9% per month and 11.2% per year. Food products remain the category that most influences the growth of consumer prices. The price increase is due to economic and seasonal factors, as well as increased production costs.

Recall that in December 2024, vegetables may rise in price by up to 15%, and fruits – up to 10%. In particular, the price of white cabbage may rise to 33 hryvnia, onions – up to 20 hryvnia, and potatoes – up to 37 hryvnia.
