This year's festive table will cost Ukrainians more.

The cost of the Christmas table in 2024 will be UAH 1,365, which is 41% higher than last year's figure of UAH 970.

At the Institute of Agrarian Economics, scientists calculated the cost of the Christmas table based on average supermarket prices as of early December.

According to calculations, the Christmas menu of traditional dishes, that is, kutia and compote, fried fish, vinaigrette, vareniki, stewed cabbage, lean borscht with beans, fried potatoes and vegetables will cost about 1365 UAH for an average family.

According to scientists' calculations, wheat kutia – 950 g of traditional recipe products – will cost 175.05 UAH and will become the second most expensive dish on the holiday table.

The most expensive ingredients of the dish this year were: poppy seeds – 68.5 UAH for 200 g, as well as walnuts – 44.89 UAH and raisins – 21.73 UAH for 100 g, respectively. The main component of kutia – durum wheat groats – will cost 21.30 UAH for 400 g. We will pay another 16.90 UAH for honey per 100 g and add a little sugar (50 g) for 1.73 UAH.

Traditional compote is made from dried apples, pears and prunes. Ready-made sets of these fruits for compote cost 105.36 UAH in supermarkets (600 g per 2 liters of water).

The most expensive dish this year will be fried fish – 306.97 UAH. For 2 kg of live carp you will have to pay 301 UAH, and for 200 g of flour – 5.97 UAH.

The third most expensive dish will be lean borscht with beans.For 2.535 kg of products (for 2 liters of water) you will need to pay 131.94 UAH. The most expensive component here is dry white beans (300 g) – 43.53 UAH.

Vegetable component: potatoes (362 g) – 12.59 UAH, cabbage (300 g) – 12.66 UAH, onions (100 g) – 1.75 UAH, carrots (400 g) – 12.08 UAH, beets (800 g) – 16.15 UAH. You need to add 70-75 g of tomatoes – 8.31 UAH and tomato paste – 11.82 UAH. A little more sugar – 1.73 UAH for 50 g, vegetable oil – 6.21 UAH for 80 g, to taste: black pepper and salt (1.87 UAH), bay leaf (3.24 UAH) or herbs.

Vinaigrette Salad(1.73 kg of products) will cost 67.75 UAH. The most expensive ingredients will be pickled cucumbers 21.40 UAH for 200 g.

We will pay for vegetables: potatoes (600 g) – 20.86 UAH, beets (400 g) – 8.08 UAH, carrots (378 g) – 11.42 UAH, onions (100 g) – 1.75 UAH. Vegetable oil dressing costs 3.88 UAH for 50 g and salt to taste (0.36 UAH).

Stewed cabbage(2.229 g of products) will cost 109.88 UAH. The most expensive here will be champignons (300 g) – 43.88 UAH. The cost of vegetables will be 59.43 UAH: 1 kg of cabbage – 42.20 UAH, 189 g of carrots – 5.71 UAH, 660 g of onions – 11.52 UAH. Salt and pepper to taste – 0.36 UAH and vegetable oil (80 g) – 6.21 UAH.

Fried potatoes are prepared with 100 g of vegetable oil (7.76 UAH) with 1 kg of potatoes (34.77 UAH) and 132 g of onions (2.30 UAH) with the addition of salt and pepper to taste (0.36 UAH). Total expenses – 45.19 UAH.

Pickles are served separately: sauerkraut – 75 UAH for 500 g and barrel-salted cucumbers – 42 UAH for 400 g. Fresh vegetables are also on the table – cucumbers (70 UAH) and tomatoes (64 UAH) at 500 g, respectively.

Earlier it was reported that in December 2024 vegetables may rise in price by up to 15%, and fruits – up to 10%. In particular, the price of white cabbage may rise to 33 UAH, onions – up to 20 UAH, and potatoes – up to 37 UAH.

Meat prices will traditionally continue to rise before the New Year. Before the holidays, prices for these types of meat may increase by up to 9%.
