Potatoes are getting more expensive in Ukraine again: how much does a kilogram cost now

Prices for the vegetable are already on average 16% higher than at the end of January last year.

Prices for potatoes in Ukraine have started to rise again. The main reason was the general reduction in the supply of local potatoes, because the bulk of the vegetable was sold in the first half of the current season.

EastFruit writes about this.

Analysts noted that as a result, potato prices rose to 20-30 UAH/kg ($0.48-0.71/kg), which is on average 12% higher than at the end of the last working week.

At the same time, wholesalers complain about the shortage of quality potatoes from local producers. Farmers believe that the quality of the vegetable is due to unfavorable weather conditions during the harvesting period.

Potato prices in Ukraine are already on average 16% higher than at the end of January last year. Many market participants are confident that the rate of increase in vegetable prices will accelerate in the near future due to information about a possible shortage of high-quality potatoes.

Earlier it was reported that actual consumer inflation in December 2024 exceeded the forecast of the National Bank of Ukraine, and prices will continue to rise in the coming months.

At the same time, the NBU expects inflation to return to a steady decline trajectory in the second half of 2025.

According to the State Statistics Service, consumer inflation in Ukraine increased by 12.0% at the end of 2024, including 1.4% inflation in December.
