What is the indexation of pensions
Indexation is a mechanism for increasing the amount of payments from the state that allows you to fully or partially compensate for the rise in consumer goods and services over the past year.
Indexation of pensions in Ukraine is automatic. It has been held every year in March, since 2019, when it became part of the pension reform.
Automatic indexation of pensions is one of the few increase in social benefits in 2025, because according to the budget, the cost of living and the minimum salary this year will be frozen. The size of the indexation is not constant. It can be calculated according to the established formula.
for the calculation, 50% of inflation for the previous year and 50% of the growth rate in Ukraine for the same period is taken. The sum of these two values determines the percentage of which the pension will be indexed.
Inflation in 2024 amounted to 12%. At the same time, the average salary in 2024, according to the Pension Fund, amounted to 17,486.60 hryvnias. That 22.2% more than in 2023 (14,308.46 hryvnias).
These indicators allow you to calculate the coefficient of indexation of pensions, which will be 1.115 .

the indexation will not affect those who retired over the past three years – their payments are considered relevant. However, for such pensioners, a small increase can be installed, as it was in previous years.
The indexation will also not affect pensioners whose pension exceeds 10 subsistence minimums which is 23,610 hryvnias. If a person’s pension approaches this amount or exceeds it, it will not receive indexation.
