Water prices vary in different regions of the country.
In some cities in Ukraine, water tariffs have already increased or may change in March, as local authorities have the authority to make the relevant decisions.
An increase in the price of water for household consumers may occur in those communities where local authorities carry out such actions without the consent of the National Energy and Utilities Regulatory Commission.
At the same time, the cost is formed taking into account a number of factors:
- equipment status
- cost of electricity
- access to water resources and other expenses
Therefore, the final cost of water supply and drainage services should be clarified at your place of residence.
The formation of prices is controlled by the National Commission for the Regulation of Energy and Public Utilities (NKREKU). However, the final cost of water supply and sanitation is determined by individual water utilities, which entails differences in tariffs depending on the region.
Overall, in April and July 2024, a two-stage increase in water tariffs for consumers was planned, by an average of more than 12% in the first stage, and then by more than 14%.
What is known about the growth of tariffs in the capital
Residents of the capital of Ukraine may start paying more than 34% more for water from April 1, and another 15% more from July. This is evidenced by data published on the website of the National Commission for State Regulation of Energy and Public Utilities (NKREKU).
In particular, from April 1, 2024, the tariff for centralized water supply to household consumers is to be set at UAH 17.57 per 1 cubic meter (excluding VAT), and for centralized water disposal – UAH 16.41 (excluding VAT). It comes out to UAH 33.98 per 1 cubic meter (excluding VAT), or UAH 40.78 with VAT.
From July 1, 2024, the tariff for centralized water supply is to be raised to UAH 21.42 per 1 cubic meter (excluding VAT), for centralized water disposal – to UAH 17.66 (excluding VAT). It comes out to UAH 39.08 (excluding VAT), or UAH 46.9 with VAT.
Now the water supply tariff in Kyiv is UAH 16,164, and water disposal is UAH 14,220. Together with VAT it is UAH 30,384. Consequently, the cost may increase by 34.2% from April 1, and by another 15% from July 1.
Earlier, the National Bank reported that utility tariffs will remain unchanged in 2025. However, from 2026, a gradual reduction in tariffs to economically justified levels is expected.
