General transformation of the labor market in the next 5 years

The transformation of the labour market is driven by several key factors: technological and demographic changes, the green transition and economic uncertainty. Employers around the world predict that 170 million jobs will be created by 2030, representing 14% of current employment. At the same time, about 92 million existing positions (8% of total employment) will disappear. The overall structural turnover in the labour market will amount to 22% of global formal employment.

Technology-related professions are showing dynamic growth rates. According to the report’s forecasts, the top 5 professions with the fastest growth in 2025-2030 will include:

The advent of AI has made its own adjustments to the world of professions, because since 2023, companies have gradually begun to use it in their work – the IT sector remains the leader. AI increases productivity by helping workers master new skills and perform more complex tasks. At the same time, without proper regulation, it can contribute to the displacement of human labor. Rapid technological progress accelerates the automation of routine tasks, resulting in the reduction of such professions as:

Green Economy in the Professional Market

The green economy is having a significant impact on the transformation of the labour market. Among the fastest growing professions are specialists in renewable energy and environmental engineering, which are expected to show growth of about 40%.

In addition to the increasing demand for technology specialties, there is an increasing demand for specialists in autonomous and electric transport, which is a consequence of both technological progress and the greening of the economy.

Farmers and agricultural workers lead the jobs that will see the most job growth over the next five years, with about 35 million jobs.

In third place are software developers – about 5 million. The economy of the future will combine traditional industries with environmental innovations.

What will happen to other professions?

The service sector will see quite mixed trends. Food and customer service workers, personal assistants and nurses are showing steady growth. Cashiers, ticket sellers and customer information workers are experiencing significant layoffs.

The education sector remains stable, with secondary and special education teachers among the growing occupations, especially primary and early childhood education specialists.

The construction sector and crafts, especially electricians, remain strong.

The transportation market is becoming stratified, with light truck and delivery drivers seeing strong growth while dispatchers, conductors and other support staff are in rapid decline.

The largest declines were seen in administrative work, financial services, printing services and some retail sectors.
