The Powerball jackpot has surged to an estimated $1.7 billion for the Christmas Eve drawing on Wednesday, following a Monday drawing with no winners, reports Baltimore Chronicle. Monday’s numbers were 3, 18, 36, 41, and 54, with the Powerball number 7 and a 2x Power Play multiplier.
Players who win the Powerball jackpot have the option to select either a lump sum payment or an annuity, which provides one immediate payment followed by 29 annual payments that increase by 5% each year. According to Powerball, the odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million.
The last jackpot win occurred in September when two tickets, sold in Missouri and Texas, shared a $1.787 billion prize, marking the second-largest jackpot in Powerball history. The largest prize in the game’s history was $2.04 billion, won on November 7, 2022, in California.
Tickets cost $2 each and are available in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Monday night’s drawing took place at 10:59 p.m. ET.
