Owners of electric cars are forced to abandon their vehicles due to the lack of opportunity to recharge them.
The TV channel showed that drivers in the Chicago suburb of Oak Brook have been unable to charge their cars since Sunday. Therefore, local residents left dozens of electric vehicles at charging stations.
“We have a lot of dead robots here,” one of the Tesla owners, who was never able to charge his car, commented to the TV channel.
Tesla did not respond to emails or TV channel calls, but a Chicago-based auto expert says there are a few things electric car owners can do when it gets this cold.
“Like any new technology, people need training,” said Mark Bilek of Chicago Automotive Trade Association.
Bilek said all electric vehicles can have problems with extreme cold, and drivers should press the preconditioning button before charging the battery.
It's worth noting that Tesla owners can manually preheat the cabin by activating pre-conditioning or defrosting in the Tesla app.
