Ukraine expects the EU to approve a new support program worth 50 billion euros on February 1

All 27 member states of the European Union have agreed to support a four-year €50 billion support program for Ukraine, the Ukraine Facility. This was stated by Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmygal.

“We expect that this year the EU will be able to provide financial assistance at approximately the 2023 level. To cover the Ukrainian budget deficit, it is important for us to attract about 18 billion euros from the European Union,” the prime minister said.

US assistance

In addition, Shmygal noted that he plans $11.8 billion in budget support this year will be provided by the Administration of US President Joe Biden.

“We hope for a positive decision by the American Congress on this issue in the near future,” he said.

In December, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban blocked a decision on changes to the EU budget, which included a medium-term assistance program for Ukraine worth 50 billion euros.
