As of January 1, 2024, the total amount of deposits of individuals (including individual entrepreneurs) in participating banks of the Deposit Guarantee Fund amounted to UAH 1,234.8 billion. In December 2023, this figure increased by UAH 64.6 billion, reports the Fund’s press service.

From the total amount of deposits of individuals at the beginning of January 2024:
- deposits in national currency — UAH 796.4 billion (+ UAH 41.5 billion for December); deposits in foreign currency – 438.4 billion UAH (+23.1 billion UAH for December).
The ratio of hryvnia deposits to foreign currency deposits remained almost unchanged during 2023: respectively 62.2% and 37.8% at the beginning of the year versus 64.5% and 35.5% at the end.
p>The share of individual entrepreneurs in the structure of depositors as of January 1, 2024 was 3.2%, and the amount of their deposits amounted to UAH 149.9 billion (12.1% of the total amount of deposits). Deposits of individual entrepreneurs are subject to guarantees of the Fund from January 1, 2017.
As of January 1, 2024, there were 63 banks in the register of participants of the Guarantee Fund.
During the two years that Ukraine has been living in conditions of full-scale war, we have recorded a stable increase in the amount of citizens’ deposits in Ukrainian banks. In 2022, this trend was influenced, in particular, by the revaluation of the hryvnia equivalent of foreign currency deposits due to an increase in the foreign exchange rate, which led to an increase in the amount of deposits to UAH 1,051.5 billion.
Real increase in deposits in participating banks The Fund for 2022 amounted to UAH 150.7 billion, while the total increase in the amount of deposits in the guarantee system for 2022 was UAH 375.9 billion, or 55.6% (taking into account the inclusion of a new participant in the Fund).
In turn, in 2023, we recorded an increase in the balances of funds in the accounts of individuals and individual entrepreneurs by UAH 183.3 billion (by UAH 142.3 billion in UAH and UAH 41.0 billion in foreign currency), of which only UAH 15.6 billion explained by the increase in the exchange rate.
Consequently, over the past year, household deposits actually increased by UAH 167.7 billion, which is UAH 17.0 billion. more than in 2022. As a result, the amount of deposits of individuals in the participating banks of the Fund for 2023 exceeded UAH 1.2 trillion, which indicates a high level of confidence of Ukrainians in banks,” said Deputy Managing Director of the Fund Olga Belay.

From April 13, 2022, for the duration of martial law in Ukraine and for three months after its cancellation or termination, deposits of individuals (including individual entrepreneurs) in the participating banks of the Fund are subject to 100% guarantees.
After the expiration of a three-month period from the date of lifting or termination of martial law, the maximum amount of guaranteed compensation for depositors of Ukrainian banks will be UAH 600 thousand.
