Border blocking

“Not only border crossings will be blocked, but also transport hubs, access roads to railway transshipment stations and sea ports,” says the communiqué of the Solidarity farmers’ trade union, quoted by the Polish RMF FM.

Previously, 9 February, Solidarity announced a 30-day general farmers' strike.

Why are farmers protesting

Polish farmers say they are protesting against the uncontrolled influx of goods from Ukraine to Poland due to the opening of borders by the European Union.

It is noted that “the lack of regulation calls into question the profitability of agricultural production, processing and other agriculture-related industries.”

“Therefore, on February 20, within the framework of the 30-day general farmers' strikes, we announce that all protests will be aimed at a complete blockade of all Polish border crossings with Ukraine and protests on the ground,” reported Solidarity farmers.

Remember

Ukraine has already changed the rules for exporting agricultural products to five EU countries. The government adopted a resolution to prevent abuse.

The Ministry of Finance wrote that on February 9, Polish farmers began blockading the checkpoint on the border with Ukraine – “Medica – Shegini”. Later, the protests spread to two more checkpoints – “Yagodin-Dorogusk” and “Rava-Russkaya-Grebnoye”.
