Canada, following its G7 partners, is introducing additional restrictions on the import of Russian diamonds. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Canada.

This ban applies to the indirect import of Russian diamonds and jewelry with diamonds weighing one carat and above.

“This is in line with the obligations taken in February, May and December 2023 by G7 leaders to reduce the Putin regime's income from the export of non-industrial diamonds from Russia,” the statement said.

Canada will continue to work with the G7 and other international partners to implement comprehensive controls, banning Russian diamonds from G7 markets.

“This will give Canadian consumers additional confidence that the proceeds from the diamonds they purchase will not be used for Russia’s illegal war,” the report says.

Recall

The Ministry of Finance wrote that the Office of Foreign Assets Control of the US Department of the Treasury (OFAC) on February 8, 2024 introduced new sanctions against the Russian Federation. They concern the import of Russian diamonds and oil.
