Next week, reduced social payments will begin to apply in Ireland for new Ukrainian refugees living in public housing. This was stated by Irish Minister of Social Protection Heather Humphreys, reports extra.ie.

After the full-scale Russian invasion, Ireland provided public housing to Ukrainian refugees, as well as a benefit of 220 euros for the unemployed.
It is noted that the large number of Ukrainian arrivals at the height of the housing crisis has forced the government to cut aid in an attempt to make Ireland less attractive to refugees.
Next week, newly arrived refugees from Ukraine will be entitled to only €38.80 per week , if they live in government centers for arrivals.
However, they can stay there for a maximum of 90 days, after which refugees must find housing themselves. When they do this, the higher rate of assistance will be renewed.
It should be noted that the reduction in payments will not affect assistance for refugees from Ukraine per child, which is 140 euros per month.
Noted The number of new refugees has fallen sharply since Ireland announced payment cuts last year.
As of 26 February 2024, the weekly refugee count was 161, compared with more than 700 last year.< /p>
