It is known that a product called HSBC Gold Token was created on the platform of digital assets of HSBC Orion and is available to investors through HSBC Online Banking and the HSBC HK Mobile App. The goal of the project is to provide access to gold trading to retail clients.
The statement said that HSBC claims to be the first bank to create a real asset based on the blockchain, designed for retail investors.
“ We are proud that HSBC Gold Token is the first retail product in Hong Kong based on distributed ledger technology authorized by the Securities and Futures Commission,” said bank spokesperson Maggie Ng.
As a reminder, in November 2023 HSBC has announced plans to launch a custodial service for tokenized assets in 2024.
