Apple is laying off 614 workers in California after canceling its self-driving electric car project. This is the company's first significant job cuts since the COVID-19 pandemic, CNBC reports.

Employees of the IT giant were informed of their dismissal on March 28, but the changes will come into force on May 27.
< p>In the message about the reduction, Apple does not mention the specific projects to which the laid-off workers were involved. However, they are known to have worked out of the company's headquarters, in smaller satellite offices, working on secret projects.
The positions of machine shop managers, hardware engineers and design engineers were cut, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
