Meta tightens rules on AI-generated content

Meta Corporation is updating its policy on AI-generated content. Starting in May, Instagram, Facebook and Threads will have special tags next to photos or videos made with AI. This is stated in the company's blog.

Labelling will be applied when users report using artificial intelligence tools or when Meta will detect indicators of AI-generated photo or video content.

Meta's previous policy prohibited videos created or edited using artificial intelligence tools that made a person say something they didn't say. However, the old rules did not cover the wide range of AI content that is rapidly filling the Internet.

Meta also changes the way AI content is moderated. Starting from July, the corporation will stop deleting materials created by artificial intelligence that do not contradict other community rules. The Supervisory Board recommended giving users more context about this rather than restricting content.

However, content with or without AI that violates other rules, such as policies on intimidation, election interference, and harassment, will continue to be delete.
